<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://www.ncrm.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>Nichi-In Centre for Regenerative Medicine (NCRM),</strong></a><strong> an unit of </strong> <a href="https://medinippon.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">MediNippon Healthcare Pvt. Ltd</a>., an Indo-Japan healthcare company, the R &amp; D collaborator of <a href="https://gncorporation.com/en/home-en/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>GN Corporation Co. Ltd., Japan</strong></a>, will present nearly two decades of collaborative translational research at an international webinar to be hosted by <a href="https://smccro-lab.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>SMC Laboratories, Inc., Japan</strong></a>, on <strong>21 August 2026</strong>. The webinar will highlight the outcome of a unique translational research ecosystem established through sustained collaboration among scientists, clinicians, academic institutions and industry partners in India, Japan and other countries, yielding novel solutions in healthcare based on original technologies from Japan. </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The webinar will showcase three representative innovations arising from this approach:  </p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong><em>Innovation 1: Providing a solution to Physicians from a basic science technology: BEES-HAUS &amp; BHES-HAU</em>S</strong> </h4>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Urologists looking forward to a long term disease recurrence-free solution for male urethral stricture when approached us, we found a synergy with our tissue engineering platform using <a href="https://medinippon.com/myth/festigel/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Festigel scaffold</a> and developed <a href="https://www.ncrm.org/myth/beeshaus/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">BEES-HAUS (Buccal epithelium Expanded and Encapsulated in Scaffold‐Hybrid Approach to Urethral Stricture)</a> cell therapy. <a href="https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/iju.13874" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">A pilot clinical study was successfully completed.</a> <a href="https://doi.org/10.1007/s12015-022-10466-1" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pre-clinical proof of cell engraftment</a> was also undertaken and the technology was subsequently transferred to Japan. The BEES-HAUS was further simplified as <a href="https://www.ncrm.org/myth/bheshaus/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>BHES-HAUS (Buccal Epithelium Hashed and Encapsulated in Scaffold – Hybrid Approach to Urethral Stricture),</strong></a><strong> </strong>a single sitting procedure incorporating <a href="https://www.festigel.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Festigel scaffold</a>, whose encouraging outcome was presented at the <a href="https://www.auajournals.org/doi/abs/10.1097/01.JU.0001191672.88727.3a.08" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">American Urology Association (AUA) meeting 2026.</a> BHES-HAUS has a global market potential of 2 billion US dollars. <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5840311" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"></a></p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong><em>Innovation 2: Value adding a food supplement to make it a drug-adjuvant for a rare disease</em></strong> </h4>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Our global network of physician-scientists&nbsp;upon&nbsp;studying the properties of&nbsp;<a href="https://communities.springernature.com/posts/a-zig-zag-journey-of-14-years-to-discovery-people-pursuits-perseverance-made-things-happen-a-hope-to-duchenne-muscular-dystrophy-patients-zeitenwende-continues" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">two forms of&nbsp;exo-polysaccharide beta glucans approved as food supplements in Japan,</a>&nbsp;whose dosage had been standardized like that of a drug, compared their specific efficacies&nbsp;in&nbsp;<a href="http://dx.doi.org/10.1136/bmjgast-2022-000985" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">phased pre-clinical studies</a>&nbsp;taking the&nbsp;<a href="https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jceh.2022.06.008" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">expertise of SMC laboratories</a>&nbsp;and discovered&nbsp;the immune modulating potentials of one of the products which led to the&nbsp;development of a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ibroneuroreports.org/article/S2667-2421(23)00055-6/fulltext" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">safe and efficacious disease modifying adjuvant for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD),</a>&nbsp;a rare and progressive genetic disorder.&nbsp; This product has&nbsp;now&nbsp;&nbsp;received&nbsp;<a href="https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/opdlisting/oopd/detailedIndex.cfm?cfgridkey=1019624" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>Orphan Drug Designation (ODD)</strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Rare Pediatric Disease Designation (RPDD)</strong>&nbsp;from the U.S. FDA.</a>&nbsp;</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>I</strong><em><strong>nnovation 3: Clinical translation of an implant in a suitable rare disease patient: STAR-MING </strong></em></h4>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For an ultra-rare disease of <strong>Parry Romberg Syndrome</strong> with hemi-facial atrophy when an oral and maxillofacial surgeon was looking for a bio inert non-immunogenic non-antigenic non-biodegradable filler until the time when the patient have to undergo a final surgical correction procedure after epiphyseal fusion, found a synergy with our <a href="https://www.ncrm.org/myth/starming/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">STAR-MING implant</a>. The STAR-MING implant can be cut into an size and can be inserted using a very small incision because 3D printed materials may require large incisions, which on face might be disfiguring and hence they opted for STAR-MING. <a href="https://www.ncrm.org/myth/starming/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">A clinical study was undertaken with more than nine years follow up proving the safety and efficacy of the STAR-MING implant</a>. The STAR-MING as a facial aesthetic filler and future as a breast implant has a global market potential of Three billion US Dollars. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>A MoU for translational research in managing corneal blindnesswas signed among Kanyakumari Medical Mission Research Center (KMMC)</strong>, Muttom, a nodal institute of DMI foundation in southern most part of India, their associate <strong>St. Joseph University in Dar-Es-Salaam</strong>, Tanzania, GN Corporation, Japan, their associates <a href="https://www.ncrm.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NCRM</a> &amp; <a href="https://www.medinippon.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Medinippon</a>, along with <strong>Be Well Hospitals</strong>, Chennai, India and <strong>Light and Light Ventures</strong>, London, UK. In Phases, a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Regenerative Medicineto translate basic science developments to clinical solutions will be set up in KMMC taking technological guidance from Japanese physician-scientists.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In the Genito-Urinary Reconstructive Surgeons (GURS) Masterclass 2024 conducted in United Kingdom, Dr Masayuki Shinchi　and Dr Akio Horiguchi presented the BEES-HAUS autologous cell therapy for male urethral stricture, and were awared the best poster prize.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The basic study started in 2008, through human and animal buccal tissue dervied cells cell culture standardization, pre-clinical and pilot clinical studies now having been recognised in the prestigious international forum, would add further strength to the team in moving forward to make this a routine clinical procedure to imporve the quality of life of patients ailing with urethral stricture.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The MENA Rare Diseases Conference brings together experts from various medical fields for presentations, workshops, and group meetings on rare diseases, as well as the latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases and medical and support services for patients.
